DV cam logic Vs totally pro originated BS
Просмотров 15 тыс.Год назад
In this, episode 70 - part 1, DV takes on what seem to be beliefs widely held by many professionals concerning 'cam profile dynamics Vs cam event timing'. When some grossly misleading info was put forward by a company that supposedly consults on the topic of cams and engines in particular DV decided it was time to do some serious BS bashing. So here, with little held back, is part 1 of the crus...

Why are these #'s critical for a good torque build?
Просмотров 41 тыс.Год назад
In this, episode 71, DV and crew chief Mervin Bonnet, reveal certain easily attainable combinations of parts can generate a stronger torques curve than others. This increased torque potential can amount to a sizable increase in lbs-ft per cube so it has the same effect as making your engine feel much bigger than it really is. Since all the moves described come about through increased efficiency...

Our super hi-flow SB Chevy heads - flow bench results.
Просмотров 10 тыс.Год назад
In this, episode 62 part 4, DV really takes a hi-tech look at the flow figures our Ultra Pro 9 degree heads achieve on the flow bench. As he has stated so often flow #'s alone are at best short of even half the story. Additionally he goes on to show that you can acquire the tech know-how of a winning pro-stock head porter just by adopting the use of the IOP head porting program. Everyone from a...

Impossible though it may at first appear, here are the results of DV's efforts toward doing the finished porting on a set of UltrPro Machining 9 degree small block Chevy heads. Ultra Pro's CNC, 293 cc, 2.25 intake valve version goes to 440 cfm before 0.800 lift. Can DV match that. Guess you will have to watch this to find out!

In this Dart University porting video presented by DV (episode 66) and aimed at small pro shops we ask the question 'can in house porting net more income than the purchase of an already fully prepped CNC head'. this video - the first of five parts - definitely provides the answer 'yes'. Here is how it's done.

Thank you for sharing your knowledge. I hope some youngsters can learn from you. 😊
That's dam fine! where do I find the info on how I can try to do this on my heads? of better yet can I send my heads off and have them done? There's plenty of guys out that will port heads for me but I don't want to get ripped off by joe blows head job. I'm sure I could butcher them myself LOL!
I learn so much from all the pros and you are a real pro. I like No Bullshit.
David Vizard is amazing take every word he says to the bank.
An old flathead Ford builder once said" never wash a reused camshaft as the impregnated oil will be washed away and the cam will require another break-in". If this logic is sound, would it be wise to soak a new cam and lifters in hot oil before assembly? Thanks DV, your contributions are appreciated.
Wonderful videos. Invaluable information. Cheers.
Fantastic content, Thank You David and crew.
Informative and stimulating.
Ill be doing this with my 7 port head for the A series. Currently it has 40mm ports and throttle bodies on a 1310. Way too big. Im thinking about going down to 30mm ports and throttle bodies in an effort to get the velocity up and hopefully see a decent torque improvement right through to 7500rpm
Thank you
Awesome presentation.
Thank you DV, I am a bit late to the party 🤭 but the content is spot on, loving your insight to the intricacies of engine building and design, if I was in the US I would defiantly make the pilgrimage to come and say hello!
All excellent and true info but K&N filters use a layer of oil to operate and a small amount (vapors) of this oil will flow into the system. Modern engine sensors don't like any oil passing through the air system and potentially clogging them. In addition, the race engines you're talking about have dramatically different airbox set ups than a typical passenger car engine. This will change the K&Ns ability to filter on a standard passenger car. I've rebuilt over 200 engines in my life (some race and some passenger car) and have only used WIX (or Napa Gold - same part).
Didnt Wix do the best?
Again what cam did u use on 525hp 525tq 383 i really need to know the cam is only part i need to complete my 383 pump gas build please reply yio ignored my letters and emails please ive been waiting since civid started its hell trying to keep things from rusting thamks
i call it a rule of thumb. using the fornula, the lsa for a boss 351 cleveland is 106.5..... never gonna get a smooth idle with that no matter how little duration is used.
Exelent info! Thank you!!!
Epic story
Good info. What about gear drives and belts? Are those better for power loss?
hi love your videos ! wowo we have a place in Tucson, AZ ! we moved here in 1976 ! drove a Norton 750 and then a 77' BMW R100S ! we might have met ! did you know Dave Braswell ? I later worked @ bud's out back M/C shop !
Thank you for taking the time to teach us from a lifetime of dedication and hard work!
In the late 90s and early 2000s I had a 1987 Shelby Daytona 2.22 L turbo. I worked for Dodge and this was my experiment car. I cut up had like a loaf of bread so I could see the design. When I poured in my head, I took the exhaust floor out, the big lump. I ran 25 pounds of boost daily driven 13 years. It made 563 hp
I raced it and DD at 25 psi. Over 500 hp
I cut this head apart in the late 90’s. Even got national TV spot on mother’s car show with Don Garlitz. Richard Holdener
In the 90s early 2000s I cut ahead into like bread so I could see how much support on my turbo 87 Shelby. I ported so much the fuel map wouldn’t support a start. I ended up running 25 pounds of boost daily driving
#Richard Holdener. I been where you are going
I’m a retired Dodge technician. I got on TV in the 90s early 2000s with my 2.2 L turbo running on 25 pounds of boost as my daily driver. I got a 10 minute national spot with Don Garlitz on mother car show series. My success was from trial and error and cutting a cylinder head into slice of bread.
Mr. Vizard does it application apply to a L31 block as well?
This is jack Burchnell I want to take a min and tell you thank you so much for sharing on the 186 castings I am close to finishing the first cyc head this is the first time that everything is in place for me to do this work and and I am well pleased with the results I just want to say thanks
Awesome:) Thanks King David
I would like to know how to adjust this formula for different valve angles.
Thank you DV. I'm so much better engine builder because of you. You put me in the winner's circle. Very strange. My car number was. 50. 1999. August 7th. Old Dominion speedway.
Always amazed. You're a power tech videos. I like candy for me.
What would the cost be to have you do this to a pair heads?
Yes i think u should promote john from ultra pro
Somebody make a roller tappet out of 6Al 4V titanium to see if it would hold up. Less reciprocating mass . Yes, I know $$$$$
It seems like this guy knows his stuff and is a great presenter, but all the video graphics and nonsense are irritating and not necessary. Just saying..
But what about CATALYTIC CONVERTERS? I think most people have to have them. Maybe not literally most, but might as well be most all things considered. So the muffler issue is solved, but I'm still stuck with the crummy cats?
David your the best at this game im a machinist as well but i learn something from you every time so maybe im still a wanna be machinist
Do you have a video showing a test to disprove Todd or are you only able to disprove with theory and discussion?
I have a question. I have a sbc lt1 motor from a 96 z/28. I know the crank has to be swapped, but how good is the block for?
OK, you don't like to be called a writer. But before I finish trying to get my point said t must tell you how much I appreciate that you do what you do so well. Thank you. And by the way, for a 2bit writer.. your 3 1/2 bits of all right.
How do these compare to the old TFS/KPI as cast 170 highport?
Bought a set of the Sonic Turbos back in the early 80s. Loved the sound and they rocked. Thanks David!
I used to constantly beat cheating engines with perfectly legal engines at the local stockcar track.
Mr Vizard, What would be the 128 formula react to a 288 cubic inch engine react how would that react weather 911 compression ratio and 194 valve I'm getting below 110 is my calculations this is a 28330 over it's an old super stock engine that we used to run 30 or 40 years ago and I'm putting it together just for fun but I want I know the right camshaft Will Make It or Break It back then we ran straight drive and it didn't matter as much because we would turn it up to the moon and dump the clutch and we broke a lot of stuff but when we didn't we were in for a heck of a ride but I'm putting this in an automatic car so the camshaft will be a lot more particular and I'm only going to use the $3,500 converter and a 410 gear so I'm behind the eight ball to get the engine to perform any kind of way like it is to and I'm not thinking it's going to or I know it won't but it would be nice to hear it sound somewhere similar to the way it was and back then we ran the tunnel ram with 2660 Center squirters and now I'm not going to run anything close to that
lol you are obviously butt hurt by the facts that KN filters SUCK! I’ve used them in the past! Take off your intake hose from the filter box to the throttle body and wipe it out and look at all the sticky, sludged up, glued on dirt!
wow 🚀🚀🚀
Thanks for sharing.
10 Days Seminar with King David Vizard? Now Elvin knows:) I’m definitely going to try to attend a 10 day instructional session. Thanks DV - Thanks Andy :)
